Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Agra Circle, has cancelled the leaves of its staff deployed at the monument. According to officials, about 40,000 tourists have visited the monument daily since the start of December and the number could further rise on Tuesday, the eve of New Year, and the following day. “Huge footfall of tourists can be seen these days at the Taj Mahal. The monument will witness such rush till January-end,” said Prince Vajpayee, senior conservation assistant at the Taj Mahal. “To tackle the rush, leaves of the ASI staff have been cancelled. If needed, we will deploy more staff,” he added further. While the WR will run eight services, CR will run four services after Tuesday midnight. Vineet Abhishek, chief public relations officer of WR, said all eight services, four in each direction, will be operated between Churchgate and Virar stations. These trains will stop at all suburban stations. Virar-bound locals will depart from Churchgate at 1.15 am, 2 am, 2.30 am, and 3.25 am, while Churchgate-bound locals from Virar will depart at 0.15 am, 0.45 am, 1.40 am and 3.05 am. Central Railway will operate four special trains between CSMT and Kalyan on the main line and CSMT and Panvel on Harbour Line. The trains on both lines will depart at 1:30 am. We will put up zigzag barricading to avoid overspeeding in 57 locations identified as accident hotspots,” he said. “Extra manpower has been deployed at 172 important locations to control traffic… No decision has been taken yet about closing flyovers. CP Hyderabad has directed restaurants and pubs to make parking arrangements and ensure that drunk customers do not drive,” he added further.
